How to use Casa

Each tile is one nuisance: a waste, a tap, a window, a split’s filter, a door. You open that, not a catalogue. A short quiz sits at the top. The answer ends in three tracks.

A is the €0 move: shut a valve, pour water into a trap, undo a screen, dry the spot and look, before you buy. B is a small DIY step, only when the part is the right one and you can measure it. Amazon cards, when they appear, are category examples, not an order. C is who to call: a plumber, an electrician, a gas technician, a window fitter or a joiner. The town box opens PagineGialle. Qordac has no tradespeople of its own and books no jobs.

Casa covers water that will not run or that smells, the tap, the hose, scale on the shower, draughts, the air-conditioner’s mesh and a door that squeaks. It does not cover damp air, condensation on the glass or mould: those live on IgroCasa, for example mould in a windowless bathroom, how to air a house in winter and window condensation. A dehumidifier does not repair a drain, and a drain gel does not dry a wall.

Three rules do not change from tile to tile. Gas: if you smell gas, do not light a flame and do not flip a switch, open the windows, close the meter tap if you can reach it, leave and call the distributor’s emergency number on the bill, or 112 if there is danger. No DIY on gas or the boiler.

Electricity: cut the power at the main before you touch anything near sockets or appliances, and only if you can reach the switch without danger. Do not open boards, sockets or appliances while they are live. That is an electrician.

Water coming out of a wall or a ceiling: shut the valve if it turns, cut the power in that area if the water is near sockets or lights, take a dated photo, tell the neighbour or the building manager. Do not drill the plasterboard out of curiosity. The steps, case by case, are on who to call.

Chemicals are not mixed: bleach with ammonia, or with acids and descalers, no. Gloves and air, and the label. Acids and vinegar do not go on marble or stone. Widespread mould that returns, or a home with frail people or people with breathing trouble, is not closed with a spray: a technician and, for health, a doctor, on IgroCasa.
